Note

One nice, tall (about 71 mm high), and very large specimen (about 142 mm in maximum dimensions) of Concholepas concholepas with its original operculum (from my own reference collection). This is the largest muricid species found in Chile, and one of the largest gastropods found in northern Chile. They are heavily extracted and their populations are diminishing, as it is an edible species with a large muscle. Usually their shells are very encrusted with encrusting calcareous algae and cirripedian communities, among many other epibionts. Large specimens like this one are very rare now, and I have not obtained any this large during the last 3 years. This specimen was collected alive in 2013. This specimen is particulary large, it has a nice orangish interior of the shell, and it is rather clean although it still has some encrustations and erosion in the dorsum, which has very nice frills and sculpture for its size. The lip has some old scars in the columellar side but in general this is a rather very nice specimen for the very large size. This is your opportunity to have a very large specimen for a famous species, and an interesting natural history item. A very low initial price for a very large specimen of Concholepas concholepas
