A GIGANTIC GIGAS FROM BRITTANY. A giant oyster that is only occasionally seen as most specimens are much smaller than the impressive 160mm of this shell. I am very confused with what we have called the "Portuguese", but I think this is the giant form of this species. Cossignani & Ardovini (2011) use the name "Crassostrea gigas f. angulata" for this species. Definitely a rarity, an impressive oyster, excellent for the coffee table and unfortunately without the delicious contents that the supplier from Brittany probably enjoyed.
France. Brittany. Near Paimpol, Pointe de L'Arcouest.
