Mirapecten yaroni - RED , Dijkstra & Knudsen, 1998
Size
50.8 mm
Locality
Egypt
Note
F++. AN ENDEMIC SPECIES FROM THE RED SEA. Mirapecten yaroni is the sister species of Mirapecten rastellum. Experienced shell collectors are constantly on the lookout for "plain" pieces in otherwise patterned shells. This is a fantastic red piece. Very rare in this red coloration, small defect on the edge of the dorsal valve. Does not detract from the unique beauty of this shell. Yaronis have practically disappeared from the market and are extremely rarely available from old collections like this one.
Egypt. Red Sea. Marsa Alam. Dived. -45 m in shipwreck. 2011.
