Item | # 0003367319 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Umbilia hesitata - VERY RARE LOCALITY , Iredale, 1916 |
Size | 93.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This magnificent specimen, from an extremely rare locality, was sold by myself in a previous auction a couple of years ago, and has recently been reacquired to be offered to another Umbilia connoisseur. Very few specimens have ever been collected from this locality, and the current specimen is the ONLY specimen I have ever handled. Exceedingly solid and heavy, tending almost to rostration at the terminals. Ultra-rich colour, and beautiful pattern. Data: Off Wilson’s Promontory, South Gippsland Region, Victoria, Australia; upon sand/mud substrate; 70-80 m; trawled; 1970s. Size: 93.3 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. |
