Item | # 0003331472 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila friendii kostini southern form - Chevron Patterned !!! , Lorenz & Chiapponi, 2007 |
Size | 67.3 mm |
Locality | Augusta, WA |
Note | During our ROV activity we run
across quite a few very dead
shells laying on the bottom.
When shells die at depth, they
are not worn away by wave
action as wave action does not
extend much beyond 120
metres or so. They simply lay
there until they are carried away
by a hermit crab, dissolve back
into sea water or are buried to
become fossils. We retain some
of these, clean them up and
offer them on the auction as we
feel someone will appreciate
them as a scientific specimen. A creamy specimen with a tan chevron pattern across the dorsum with brown blurred spots to the edges. Both siphons intact just missing nacre due to abrasion. Dead collected. |
