Family | Conidae |
Name | Conus cedonulli cedonulli - RARE ONE , Linnaeus 1767 |
Size | 50.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | St. Vincent, Lessor Antilles |
Note | Marvelous cone with the classic mid-axial body whorl band featuring complex geometric threads/streaks/ animal shapes with other axial revolving microdot spiral patterns circumnavigating the body whorl. The shell shows a perfect natural lip. Live collected by Scuba diver Thomas Marr in 9/1996 in Mt. Wynne Bay, St. Vincent, Lessor Antilles. The shell was taken at 12-18 meters in sand near the base of a coral reef. The rare specimen shows a growth transition line (not a fold) evident on the dorsal body whorl just above the lip. The shell presents with calcific deposits on the upper spire and protococh with some mico-drill holes apically evident in the calcification area under higher magnification. Grade: F+++. |
