Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Nesiocypraea teramachii neocaledonica - EX. LORENZ/BEALS , Lorenz 2002 |
Size | 54.3 mm |
Locality | Pine Island, Norfolk Ridge, NC |
Note | Live taken example of an extremely rare member of the cowry family. The globular specimen, framed by a beautiful brown/orange pattern, shows a finely spotted glossy dorsum with a notable wide and dark cross band. The shell shows an excellent size/weight ratio, calloused orange-hued margins, spire callus and the extremities display moderate rostration. Excellent example of a true deep water beauty that is no longer being collected. Collected by dredging at 300-325 meters on sand/rubble bottom by Vincent Crayssac southwest of Pine Island, Norfolk Ridge, New Caledonia in 9/2004. The specimen comes with data slips from Felix Lorenz and Marty Beals whom studied this particular specimen. This shell is difficult to fault. NOTE: Teramachii neocaledonica are no longer available as trawling on the Norfolk Ridge is now prohibited. This live taken specimen is an excellent addition and investment for the discerning collector. Grade: GEM. |
