Item | # 0003326825 |
Family | Conidae |
Name | Conus bullatus - THICK LIP , Linnaeus, 1758 |
Size | 62.6 mm |
Locality | Solomon Islands |
Note | Brightly colored and exceptional example of this Conus species. The shell has a heavy weight/size ratio with an exceptional, uncommonly seen in bullatus specimens, ultra-thick lip. Two bright blush red stripes on the body whorl with soft red/pink tones and a checkerboard pattern accentuate the high visual impact of the specimen. The protoconch and spire are flawless. Darker patterns complement the body whorl as it approaches the natural lip aperture. Collected by diver at 12-15 meters in sand and under rocks off the Solomon Islands. There is minor palpable roughness at the limit of the anterior lip. Grade: F+++/GEM. |
