Note | Sublime specimen with wonderful intense banding on the body whorl and expanded wide varices. The foliatum has beautiful form, proportion, heavy weight/size ratio and has a truly striking appearance. The shell features the best characteristics of the species and makes it a collector's prize foliatum in any collection. Hard to find one much better than this specimen. Captured at the base/periphery of a kelp forest by Scuba diver Paul Kanner at 18-20 meters off the west end of San Nicolas Island, California in the late 90's. The shell shows minor wear of the protoconch. Grade: GEM minus. |
