Note | This species is in the league of unobtainable volutes. Very few were collected dead or alive from Ashmore Reef in the Indian Ocean before it became a marine park in 1983.
There is an Ashmore Reef Northeast of the Great Barrier Reef, and for many years this confused the spenceriana issue, finally sorted out with new collection information by Bail and Limpus. Refer to "Amoria: a Conchological Iconography"
This shell was collected by a scuba diver in 1979. It is a dead shell with complete loss of nacre, dorsal aspect has good represtative pattern. This shell is a specialist collectible. |
