Item | # 0003317539 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Macrocypraea cervus - AMAZING COLORS , (Linnaeus, 1771) |
Size | 110 mm |
Locality | Celestún, Yucatan, Mexico |
Note | This is a very special shell. It’s a deep water form of this species we had never had before, with a thicker lip, and in some cases, unusual aperture colors.
The colors and pattern for this shell are amazing, with a stunning dark brown background color and a very beautiful spotted pattern with abundant white dots..
To top it off, the shell comes from an extremely remote deep water population, so it is extra special. It was found while diving in open sea, 40 miles off the coast of Celestun, and at a staggering depth of 131 ft. This is the first time we get these open sea, deep water specimens, and it is not likely we will get them often, as collecting them can be quite dangerous, so the divers don’t get them frequently.
This specimen is an F+++ quality specimen, a truly amazing piece worthy of the best Cypraeidae collections. |
