Item | # 0003316439 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila ketyana ketyana - SPLENDID PEPPER SPOTTING , .....VERY RARE |
Size | 45.9 mm |
Locality | Shark Bay, Western Australia |
Note | SPLENDID PEPPER SPOTTING....VERY RARE......A charismatic and most beautiful example of this rare zoila, missing from most collections, and an opportunity to round off the ketyana set. Brilliant white dorsum. Ethereal pepper spotting, characteristic of this form but not always evident, and so beloved by collectors. Corrugated and deeply crenulated margins, reminiscent of the now extinct and closely related ketyana superba. Dark margins. Amazing basal pattern with a super dark colour scheme. Dorsum is malleated, a sign of ultra-maturity. Extremely heavy for size. So cute and so rare. A tiny blemish but gem otherwise. Reflections unavoidable. Grade: Gem-. Provenance: from my own collection. ROV collected in 82m,; Dorre Island, Shark Bay, Western Australia. |
