Item | # 0003295640 |
Family | Muricidae |
Name | Pteropurpura trialata - WORLD RECORD , G. B. Sowerby II 1834 |
Size | 87.6 mm |
Locality | Long Beach, California |
Note | Extra large and dominating example of an outstanding fusiform trialata from the East Pacific. A great specimen with three expanding and wonderfully striped varices on the body whorl becoming laminate at the edges. According to the Registry of World Record Size Shells, the existing record for a non-albino trialata is 86.07mm, making this specimen the unregistered world record. Lifted off the breakwater at the Long Beach Harbor, Long Beach, California at 12-15 meters in 1990 by Scuba diver Rob Martinson. Some roughness and minor chips evident on the older wings and a nicked protoconch is evident. The solid shell shows a perfect intact spire and siphonal canal. Grade: F+++. |
