Note | FROM WEST AFRICA: A HUGE SCALLOP WITH AN AMERICAN SHAPE.
Few know that the N. nodosus also lives in Africa. It is there called the subspecies "gabonensis", as most early material came from Gabon. Later divers discovered a population of N. nodosus gabonensis on Sao Tomé Island.
Shells from this subspecies are very hard to obtain. Now you have the opportunity to acquire such an extremely rare piece. The shell is dark and has a very regular shape with knobs around the umbo and a fine sculpture of straight lines below.
