Item | # 0003029555 | Family | Fissurellidae | Name | Fissurella cumingi - Very Nice , Reeve, 1849 |
Size | 56 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One excellent, selected specimen of Fissurella cumingi, in excellent condition for the species. Large Fissurella species are actively collected by fishermen with hooks, so they often have nicks and damage on the border of the lip, but this particular specimen is perfect, without nicks or chips in the lip, and with a clean dorsum, with only tiny marks by boring cirripedians. A nice natural history item for a low price. This is an uncommon species, and very rare to find in this excellent condition. Fissurella cumingi has shells with delicate margins, so finding one with perfect margins like this one is very rare. |
