Item | # 0002948340 | Family | BIVALVIA | Name | Entodesma cuneatum - Very Uncommon , (Gray, 1828) |
Size | 20 and 16 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | Two nice (F+) specimens of the uncommon Lyonsiidae bivalve Entodesma cuneatum. This fragile species lives exclusivelly nestling among communities of the edible ascidian Pyura chilensis, has a distorted shell due to this, and they are difficult to extract them in perfect conditions, as the ascidians prepare a hard cellulose structure for their communities. These specimens were collected alive from a washed ashore community of Pyura chilensis, and they are in the best condition for the species. This is an opportunity to have very nice specimens of an uncommon species. |
