Note | Three specimens of the very rare and very endemic bivalve Gaimardia bahamondei Osorio & Arnaud, 1984, from the type locality and the original lot from which was described this species.
This species is restricted to the Isla Santa María, a small island offshore central Chile, which is currently very hard to arrive due to problems in transport in the area. Gaimardia bahamondei is a small gonochoric bivalve which lives attached to subtidal algae. Females brood their embryos in the suprabranchial region of the pallial cavity, in close proximity to the gill filaments.
This is your opportunity to obtain one of the rarest shallow water bivalve species from the southeastern Pacific. |
