Size | 66.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This truly outstanding, enormous specimen - one of the absolute BEST of the JES Collection - is of the much coveted, no longer available, 'oceanic' form, a term used to describe the largest examples from the western coast of Muiron Island, which exhibit massive, ultra-solid, ultra-heavy shells, with 'squared off' and 'flanged' ventra. Dorsum densely mottled with coalescent, free-form, ultra-dark chestnut maculae, across a honey-cream ground. Exceptionally beautiful, extremely high, well-delineated margins, surmounted by a distinct bluish register to striking aesthetic effect. Hypermature. In a completely different league to the majority of specimens offered. A 'best of the best' eludens for the Zoila connoisseur. Size: 66.3 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off West coast of Muiron Island, Exmouth, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon orange sponge, (Caulospongia biflabellata); 20 m; dived; May 2006. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne. (NOTE: I no longer offer the holding of shells. Purchases are to be paid for and sent after each auction.) |
