Size | 24 to 17 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | Five nice specimens of Incatella cingulata (G. B. Sowerby I, 1825) collected washed ashore after tidal surges at Playa Ramada, Caldera, northern Chile. This species is the only turritellid found in northern Chile, and it lives in sandy area near rocks. It is very difficult to locate them alive, but sometimes storms or tidal surges leave them in the coast. These five specimens were selected from hundreds, and they represent the best condition for the species (which usually have growth marks and scars). |
