Note | Although numerous examples of this endemic north-eastern Australian species were collected during the now long gone days of availability, very few were of the quality of the current specimen. Most suffered damage to the ultra-delicate siphonal canal - perfectly preserved in the specimen offered here. PERFECTION. Most collectors will not appreciate the difficulty of obtaining a specimen of such quality. The specimen is also of an uncommon and beautiful ultra-dark colour form, and exhibits a pattern formed with rare regularity. Café au lait apertural interior. Now obtainable only from old collections. The BEST of the best for the Volutidae connoisseur. Size: 46.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Clairview Island, Isaac Coast, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/silt substrate at extreme seasonal low tide; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
