Size | 109.8 mm, w/o |
Locality | Australia |
Note | For its morphology; hypermaturity; weight to size ratio; colour; and QUALITY, this monumental specimen is unique amongst the examples held within the JES Collection. Its appreciably broad form, in conjunction with its incredible solidity, render it not only an atypical and highly attractive specimen, but a wonderful tactile experience to hold. Particularly expansive ventrum, with copious deposition of shell material. Columellar ‘shield’ in exemplary state of preservation for such advanced size and age. Massive, greatly thickened, fully recurved and glossed outer apertural lip, replete with well-developed dentition, and decorated with particularly beautiful rich caramel accents. Yellow-honey protoconch intact. Retention of original operculum. From the rare locality of Hopkins Island. A special fimbriata, in a different league to virtually all other specimens offered. Definitely for the Cassidae specialist, or collector of exceptional seashells. Size: 109.8 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Hopkins Island, Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 9 m; dived; 1998. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
