Item | # 0002564874 | Family | OTHER | Name | Hydatina albocincta - QUEENSLAND GIANT , (Van der Hoeven, C., 1839) |
Size | 50 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | It is difficult to believe that this spectacular GIANT of the supremely beautiful Queensland form was DREDGED, but that is how this remarkable shell was obtained during the ‘old days’ of collecting. Queensland specimens are seldom offered, compared with those from the Philippines and the China Sea. Magnificent subtle colours: broad spiral bands of straw and chocolate, and narrower bands of pure white. Typical minor irregularites, but exemplary overall quality for such greatly advanced size and age in such an ultra-delicate shell. Completely natural, virtually perfect outer apertural lip. Size: 50 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia; upon fine sand substrate; 40-80 m; trawled; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
