Note | A GIANT specimen of the ORANGE variety of the South Australian form of this much coveted endemic southern Australian species. For the South Australian form, the specimen is enormous, as this form never attains as large a size as examples from Western Australia. Characteristic reduced spines. Hypermature: ultra-solid and heavy; incredible weight to size ratio; markedly recurved, glossed outer apertural lip. Pale apricot-orange, with porcellaneous white apertural interior. Always with substantial erosion at this greatly advanced size and age. One typical predatory hole to an early whorl. Now obtainable only from old collections. Size: 125.5 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Thorny Passage, Port Lincoln, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon granite reef substrate, amongst coarse sand/gravel; 6-10 m; dived; 1994. |
