Size | 280 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This enormous, truly magnificent specimen lives up to its name, exhibiting the spectacular colour and pattern. Not all massive examples exhibit such outstanding colour and pattern, in such a beautiful design, and formed with such regularity. Supreme elegance of form, with broad body whorl, and flaring outer apertural lip. Nothing but a couple of typical restricted irregularities to body whorl, utterly negligible, and almost unnoticeable. Virtually perfect outer apertural lip, and extremely rare PERFECT siphonal canal, almost always damaged during the trawling process in specimens of this enormous size. One of the BEST magnifica of the JES Collection, now to be passed to a Volutidae specialist, or collector of giant sized, ‘display piece’ conchology. Size: c.280 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Coffs Harbour, Mid North Coast, New South Wales, Australia; upon sand substrate; 30-70 m; trawled; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
