Family | Haliotidae |
Name | Haliotis scalaris emmae - ULTRA-DARK; SUPERB , Reeve, 1846 |
Size | 63.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This beautiful specimen of the South Australian emmae subspecies exhibits the darkest colour I have ever seen in this form: rich umber, with striking axial streaks of deep pinkish cream. Opalescent apertural interior. Painstakingly cleaned, with no encrustation. Typical minor erosion. Completely natural outer apertural lip. Definitely for the Haliotidae specialist. Size: 63.3 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F+++. Data: Lacepede Bay, South Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, under slab at low tide; 1987. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
