| Note | A magnificent large specimen, exhibiting ultra-thick marginal and ventral deposition of glassy pink shell material, equating to ‘rostration’, and creating a marked weight to size ratio. I was not a collector of mappa variants, but the current specimen was retained upon aesthetic grunds, due to the truly beautiful nature and colour of the dense pink nacre. A fabulous shell ‘in the hand’. Size: 82.1 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Coron, Calamian Islands, Palawan, Philippines; upon reef rubble/sand substrate; 10-20 m; dived; 1998. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
