Item | # 0002542464 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Cymbiola magnifica - RARE ‘WHITE' FORM , Gebauer, 1802 |
Size | 235 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | Referred to as a ‘white’ or ‘patternless’ form, the shell is, in actuality, neither, but something far more beautiful: an indescribable admixture of pale creamy lemon, ivory, fawn and lavender, describing an extremely nebulous incarnation of the magnifica pattern. Exemplary quality. Outer apertural lip lightly smoothed. Always very rare in comparsion with typical examples, it is exceedingly difficult to obtain a specimen now. Not collected for decades, and rarely released from old collections. Definitely for the Volutidae specialist whose collection yet lacks this rare form. Size: c.235 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Southport, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-80 m; trawled; 1980. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
