Item | # 0002542251 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria molleri isabela - RARE GIANT , Bail & Limpus, 2001 |
Size | 110 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | One of the LARGEST and most beautiful specimens of this rare subspecies I have ever seen. Rare at this size even during the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, such shells have become a particular favourite of Volutidae collectors, and it is now almost impossible to obtain a specimen of this size, as they are seldom released from collections upon account of their highly desirable nature. Markedly slender, elongate form. Supremely well-formed pattern of highly regular axial dashes of tan. Fully mature outer apertural lip, with typical trawl loss and a few irregularities, glossed during life. The current specimen is LIVE-COLLECTED, as opposed to dead, as were the majority of specimens obtained. A magnificent shell ‘in the hand’. Size: 110 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Swain Reefs, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-80 m; trawled; 1982. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
