Family | Volutidae |
Name | Scaphella junonia - OUTSTANDING , Lamarck, 1804 |
Size | 122.4 mm |
Locality | U.S.A. |
Note | A magnificent ultra-large specimen, exhibiting a particularly regular and beautiful pattern. Rich colours: well-formed dots of reddish chestnut across a pinkish ivory ground. Exemplary quality, with none of the oft-seen growth disruptions which detract from the majority of specimens of this typically rough species. Outer apertural lip smoothed - carried out at the source decades ago as a matter of course. Very difficult to obtain this size and quality now, coming only from old collections. Size: 122.4 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off Panama City, Florida, USA; upon sand substrate; 65 m; trawled; 1980. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
