Note | We are working our way through my extensive holdings of magnificent Zoila from the private collection of Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), with this large and unusual specimen. The original, hand-written Clarkson label accompanies the specimen. Markedly elongate and slender form. Dorsum exhibiting a paucity of greenish tan maculae, across a bluish lavender ground. Burnt orange-cream margins, decorated with ultra-dark blackish chestnut maculae, surmounted by a distinct register of rich copper-chestnut. A highly unusual and beautiful friendi for the Zoila specialist. Size: 80.2 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off North of Forrest Beach, Busselton, Western Australia, Australia; upon kelp-covered limestone reef substrate, under ledge, upon yellow sponge, amongst gorgonians; 5 m; dived; May 1993.
