Note | The LARGEST and BEST specimen of the JES Collection, and a personal favourite shell, this enormous and magnificent specimen, from the ‘old days’ of collecting, is of rare quality for such advanced size and age. Fully mature, completely natural outer apertural lip, with no artificial smoothing. Very rare PERFECT apex, with protoconch intact. Beautiful earth tones in rich ochre-caramel. Opalescent apertural interior. Re-cleaned by myself for this auction, the specimen appears as fresh as the day it was collected. Now almost impossible to obtain at this imposing size in such quality. Size: 65 mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Timaru, Canterbury Region, South Island, New Zealand; upon mud/sand substrate; 60-100 m; trawled; 1976. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
