Note | An outstanding specimen of this now exceedingly rare and virtually impossible to obtain endemic Queensland subspecies. Characteristic subtle palette of delicate shades of peach, cream and apricot; fine, lightweight shell; distinctive pointillistic dorsal stippling; and reduced pattern of nebulous, broad spiral bands. Pale apricot margins, with sporadic chocolate maculae, partially obscured by creamy white glaze. Although first discovered in the 1960s, the majority of the known specimens were a product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and have never been available since. Now only from the choicest old collections. Definitely for the Cypraeidae specialist who collection yet lacks a ‘top of the line’ specimen of this now great rarity. Size: 32.8 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-120 m; trawled; 1982. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
