Note | The LARGEST and BEST tulipa of the JES Collection, this exceptional GIANT ranks as one of the finest specimens I have ever seen. Exemplary quality, with delicate protoconch and apex intact - very rare upon such an old age giant. Beautiful earth colours: axial markings of ochre, traversed by fine spiral bands of chocolate, upon an antique ivory ground. Creamy orange apertural interior. Virtually perfect outer apertural lip, exhibiting the well-developed crenulations of complete maturity. Retention of enormous original operculum. Now obtainable only from old collections at this size and quality. Size: 174 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Kice Island, South of Marco Island, Collier County, Florida, USA; upon sand substrate; 6 m; dived; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
