| Note | SPECIAL ‘CHRISTMAS SALE’ OF EXCEPTIONAL JES PRIVATE COLLECTION SPECIMENS: This is the LARGEST specimen of the Western Australian form I have ever seen. Quite different from readily available China Sea examples. Collected during the legendary 1980s trawls off the atolls of Rowley Shoals, off the north-western Australian coast, and not available since. Now only from old collections. One axial growth disruption to labral side of body whorl, (image available upon request), only to be expected with such advanced size and age in this delicate, rough habitat, deep-water species, but otherwise exemplary, with apex intact and rare PERFECT siphonal canal. Fully mature, recurved and glossed outer apertural lip. Ultra-clean, from clean white sand habitat, with none of the substrate discoloration often seen in China Sea examples. For the Cassidae specialist, or collector of giant sized shells. Size: 117.2 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off Rowley Shoals, Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 300-500 m; trawled; 1983. |
