Note | This famous specimen, one of the very FIRST specimens ever found of this rare subspecies, was diver-collected at the great depth of 64 metres, long before the advent of contemporary ROV collecting. At the time of collection this deep-water form was known from only a handful of specimens, most being trawled, but with 3-4 being diver-collected, including the current specimen. The specimen is featured in ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’ - p.106; pl.93; fig.a. To own ANY specimen illustrated in 'the book' is a goal of all Zoila enthusiasts, but to attain this goal with such a rare and coveted shell will afford all the more satisfaction to the winning bidder. Beautiful pale colours. Nothing but the most restricted natural lines. Hypermature, with incredible weight to size ratio. An historically important, 'ASC'-illustrated, diver-collected kostini, for the advanced Zoila specialist. Size: 63.7 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off 30 km from Bald Island, Albany, South Coast Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge, amongst sponge garden; 64 m; dived; March 1994.
