Size | 83.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | We are working our way through my extensive holdings of magnificent Zoila from the private collection of Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), with this highly unusual colour form of vercoi. The original, hand-written Clarkson label accompanies the specimen. Particularly striking margins: brilliant creamy ivory, decorated with large chocolate maculae. Typical restricted light natural lines. Greatly inflated form. The seldom seen nature of the colour form is no doubt upon account of the specimen coming from a rare locality - one of the typically isolated sites for which Clarkson was famous for visiting. A vercoi colour form undoubtedly lacking in the majority of specialist Zoila collections. Size: 83.4 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Off western side of Dolphin Rock, Black Island, Esperance, South Coast Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, upon boulder, amongst sponges; 22 m; dived; 16 May 1995. Provenance: 1. Peter Clarkson private collection, Port Lincoln; 2. JES private collection, Melbourne/London. |
