Item | # 0002436285 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Ericusa fulgetrum connectens - THE REAL THING; RARE , Verco, 1912 |
Size | 153.6 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | One of the rarest of all Verco's varieties, 'connectens' represents a specimen in which 'the axial lightning zigzags (are) crossed by two continuous ... bands' - (Verco's original description). The current specimen is dead-collected, but is a superb REPRESENTATIVE specimen of a form undoubtedly lacking in almost every specialist Volutidae collection. I have personally handled only four specimens of connectens in my decades of involvement with Australian shells. The current specimen is also the second largest I have ever handled. A rare opportunity for the Volutidae specialist to acquire this very seldom offered form. NOTE: Upon account of its exceeding rarity, this variety is misrepresented throughout the internet literature. Let the current specimen therefore serve as exemplar of the TRUE connectens form, as described by Verco. Size: 153.6 mm (length). Grading: F. Data: Off Point Bolingbroke, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 8 m; dived; 2001. |
