Note | The LARGEST and BEST specimen of the rare 'Gulf' form of eludens from my private collection. This outstanding specimen was collected in 2002 WITHIN Exmouth Gulf, NOT from the Muiron Islands, whence almost all specimens come. The little known and seldom offered 'Gulf' form differs appreciably from typical Muiron Islands examples, having a totally different overall form: an appreciably narrow shell, markedly tapered anteriorly, and with steep dorsal acclivity. The colour scheme is also different, with high whitish cream margins with reduced maculae of small size, as opposed to the expansive maculae of Muiron Island examples. Overall, the shell resembles a giant delicatura. No fresh specimens have been available for many years, and are now obtainable only from choice old collections. The specimen is of absolute PERFECTION. A rare eludens for the Zoila connoisseur. Size: 60.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Hope Island, Exmouth Gulf, Gascoyne Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon sand/rubble substrate, upon sponge; 26 m; dived; 2002. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
