Inscripta is a distinct color form of jeaniana that we have collected in very limited numbers in deep water west of Dirk Hartog Island. It is recognized as a new form on page 336 in Felix Lorenz's Cowries Volume 1. This specimen is one of very few we have collected over the past eight years. It was found grazing on geodia in 114 metres of water west of Dirk Hartog Island in June 2020. As can be seen in the photos it has a noticeable dorsal growth break, a sand pimple on its dorsum and has a well re-glazed chip on its posterior siphon making it a natural defect. The pimple and siphon damage are indicated by green arrows in the photos. I consider inscripta the rarest color form of jeaniana after pure white shells of which we have only collected two in the last 14 years. In gem condition I would price the shell at 8000 euro or above. Fine.
