| Note | GIANT......SUPERB......Extremely large size. Exceedingly rich colour throughout. Well-formed with a highly aesthetic pattern. Markedly heavy; solid; hyper-mature. In an exceptional state of preservation for its greatly advanced size. The largest examples of the species come from the Arabian Sea, and during the last thirty or so years numerous very large shells have been collected from this region. The Arabian Sea also boasts those examples with the richest colour. This specimen is of a size approaching the very limit for the species, and its quality, colour and pattern at such size is remarkable. Devoid of those serious growth flaws which detract from the overwhelming majority of extremely large examples. A truly outstanding and highly important example of the species. Graded for the fussiest collector. Grade: F+++. Provenance: from my own collection. Collected by an Indian fishing vessel, operating out of the port of Cochin in Arabian Sea in 2012. |
