Item | # 0002385394 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Livonia roadnightae - OUTSTANDING VIC. FORM , (McCoy, 1881) |
Size | 190 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | The LAST, LARGEST and BEST specimen of the solid Victorian form I have remaining to offer from my private collection, not only in terms of quality, but in its striking, well-formed pattern. The Victorian form is far more solid than that of South Australia, and comes from a particularlty rough habitat, consequently typically exhibiting serious and unsightly damage. Most collectors will not appreciate how difficult it is to obtain a high quality specimen of the Victorian form, such as the current specimen, let alone one exhibiting such a dramatic and aesthetically pleasing pattern. One of the very few Victorian specimens I have seen to rival a Great Australian Bight specimen in terms of aesthetic appeal. From a rare, and no longer fished locality. Now obtainable only from old collections, and almost never like this. Size: c.190 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Bass Strait, off Lady Julia Percy Island, Barwon South-West Region, Victoria, Australia; upon sand substrate; 40-100 m; trawled; 1993. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
