Size | 110.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | As one of my favourite Australian volutes, I acquired numerous choice giant specimens of this endemic South Australian species during the now long gone days of availability. From amongst these the current specimen exhibits the richest pink-red ground, at its most intense in three distinct broad spiral bands of vibrant reddish pink. Ultra-dense pattern, formed with rare regularity. Due to the availability of AVERAGE specimens in the past, this magnificent species has been undervalued, but, with the now near impossibility of obtaining fresh examples, collectors are beginning to appreciate the true value of such outstanding giant examples as the current specimen. Perfect, fully mature outer apertural lip and siphonal canal. A monumental shell 'in the hand', and one of my BEST remaining giant exoptanda. Size: 110.4 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Taylor Island, Port Lincoln, South Australia, Australia; upon white sand substrate; 6-10 m; dived; 2007. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
