Item | # 0002335914 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Pterocheilos sabayiensis - WORLD RECORD SIZE , EXTREMELY RARE. |
Size | 76.6 mm, w/o |
Locality | Timor Sea, Darwin, N. Territory. |
Note | This Muricidae is an EXTREMELY RARE species, known as Pter. sabayiensis, one I have seen very few specimens, although I have sold three pieces over the last few auctions. My source has received this specimen only recently and to date it is considered the largest specimen ever taken. At 76.6mm it is well above the average size of the other few specimens known. It is a very delicate specimen with fine transparent varices trawled from deepwater (137M). It has survived the trawling operation wonderfully, being so fragile. Is has the tiniest end of the spire missing and a few chips on the side varices otherwise beautifully intact with full columellar tail. An amazing specimen, graded FINE++ This is the Fourth specimen I have been fortunate to obtain and the LARGEST of them all. A RARE opportunity to the muricidae specialist. Trawled 137M, Timor Sea, Darwin, Northern Territory. |
