NameAmoria grayi f. kawamurai - GREAT QUALITY FOR SPECIE , MOST SOUTHERN LOCATION UNKNOWN.
Size104.5 mm
LocalityAshmore Reef, N.W. Aust.
NoteThis is truly an EXTREMELY RARE and UNIQUE specimen of Amoria kawamurai. First it is a wonderful high quality specimen and secondly because amazingly it has been trawled between Broome and the Ashmore Reef off Western Australia by currently active scampi trawlers in this region. This species has only been know to have been taken by Taiwanese Trawlers in the Timor Sea but a few specimen have now been taken off the West Australian Coast. As with them all, they are always found dead taken in various degrees of condition. I believe this West Coast specimen is different to the Timor Sea population, although I have only seen this one West Coast specimen. This specimen exhibits full live taken colour, complete lip and columella tail. There are tiny signs that a little coralline growth had been on the dorsum and I personally cleaned a small coralline worm tube just inside the aperture, near the anterior lip edge. The worm tube rounded over the anterior lip edge, so very mild filling was done to remove the worm tube. The lip has 4 or 5 tiny serrations, but overall wonderfully complete. I can not be any more explicate, but to say it is a wonderful specimen with natural lustre and obviously very freshly dead. Trawled by a scampi vessel in 170M South of the Ashmore Reef, February, 2020.
