Item | # 0002335044 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Cypraea acicularis marcuscoltroi - LEEWARD IS. FORM , Petuch & Myers, 2015 |
Size | 19.8 mm |
Locality | Leeward Antilles |
Note | An exceptional specimen, exhibiting beautiful rich dorsal colour: rich yellow-ochre, with orange-tan marginal maculae. Extreme marginal callosity in porcellaneous white. Resplendent thick gloss, meticulously curated, and appearing as fresh as the day it was collected. The locality whence the specimen comes is now protected by the Bonaire National Marine Park, and no fresh specimens will be available in future. Very difficult to obtain now. An incredibly beautiful little cowrie. The BEST of the best for the Cypraeidae specialist whose collection yet lacks a specimen from this uncommon locality. Size: 19.8 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Bonaire, ABC Islands, Leeward Antilles; upon reef substrate, under rock; 1-2 m; dived; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
