Note | This massive and incredibly beautiful vercoi was a prized specimen within the private collection of Peter Clarkson, (author of ‘Australia’s Spectacular Cowries’), and certainly rates as one of the BIGGEST and BEST he ever found. The original, hand-written Clarkson label accompanies the specimen. Numerous coalescent reddish chestnut dorsal maculae across a golden-honey ground in a highly aesthetic deisgn, delineating a distinct mantle line. Beautiful cream margins, with chocolate and cinnamon maculae. The size and presence of the specimen, enhanced by its markedly inflated form, create a truly monumental appearance. An incredible shell 'in the hand', and upon display. A rare vercoi for the Zoila connoisseur. Size: 93.4 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off East coast of Cape le Grand, Esperance, Western Australia, Australia; upon granite reef substrate, near orange basket sponge; 30 m; dived; 2 April 1995. Provenance: 1. Peter Clarkson private collection, Port Lincoln; 2. JES private collection, Melbourne/London. |
