Family | Volutidae |
Name | Lyria mitraeformis - EXTREME PALE SPECIMEN , ULTRA RARE. |
Size | 40.9 mm, w/o |
Locality | Yorke Peninsula, South Australia |
Note | This beautiful specimen intrigues me, in that it is EXTREMELY pale and has a lovely pink/orange coloured aperture, very much like the Albino subspecies mitraformis grockeae, which I also have a specimen on offer this auction. This pale colour form is not found within the normal dark mitraformis populations, but with the mitraformis grockeae population. What is intriguing is that this specimen is referred to as only a pale Lyria mitraformis. Thus I personally group this pale specimen with the albino subspecies mitraformis grockeae. A beautiful specimen with fine intricate pattern and RARELY offered. Diver collected in 8M. off Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. |
