NameZoila friendii sp. - FLINDERS BAY SPECIMEN , ULTRA RARE FRIENDII FORM, GEM.
Size87.8 mm
LocalityFlinders Bay, Augusta, S.W. Aust
NoteEasily considered the rarest form of Zoila Cypraea friendii ever, coming from the beautiful coast region of Flinders Bay, Augusta. Most would consider it very close to an Esperance friendii f.insulata with its low flared profile, but there are 1000KM between these two locations and no specimens have very been found between these locations. Surprisingly the specimens from this location are only reference in the late Peter Clarkson Book "Australia's Spectacular Cowries", Plate 71, Fig.a. and Plate 80. These specimens are so few and are sort after by those that know this form. Worth in excess of E1000 but starting at E200 to take advantage of the extra images offered by Shellauction. The region is particularly limited in size and I have local divers that have not found one for many years and some have never found one. On offer here is an amazing specimen found by the author of "Australia's Spectacular Cowries” himself. I obtained it from a close friend whom wishes it to go to someone that will really appreciate it. At nearly 90mm it is an impressive specimen with amazing weight and unique margins and base colours. The margins are gold and cream in colour with large impressive tiger spotting. Amazingly this specimen has a very soft blue coloured halo above the columellar margin, that you do not see in friendii and unfortunately is not represented well in my images. Graded GEM and with the original Peter Clarkson label with this amazing RARE specimen. Diver collected in 8M. resting directly on top of a rock, 200M from the Augusta boat ramp, Augusta, West Australia, 8th July,2006. ALL WHITE REFECTIONS ARE FROM THE CAMERA LIGHTING.
