Note | The BEST specimen from my private collection of the uncommon, deep-water South Australian form. This form differs from the intertidal form of Victoria and Tasmania in having a finer shell, and a beautiful colour of rich ochre-caramel throughout. Rare quality for this typically very rough, trawled form, with perfect, fully mature outer apertural lip and siphonal canal, and pure white mammillate protoconch intact. Painstakingly cleaned, with no encrustation, nor erosion. Now obtainable only from old collections. The BEST of the best for the Fasciolariidae specialist. Size: 123.4 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Nuyts Archipelago, off Ceduna, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-80 m; trawled; 1999. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
