FamilyCypraeidae
NameZoila friendii - FLINDERS BAY FORM SUPERB , MOST RARE FRIENDII FORM.
Size90.5 mm
LocalityFlinders Bay, Augusta, SW. Aust
Note Easily considered the rarest form of Zoila Cypraea friendii ever, coming from the beautiful coast region of Flinders Bay, Augusta. Surprisingly the specimens from this location are only reference in the late Peter Clarkson Book "Australia's Spectacular Cowries", Plate 71, Fig.a. and Plate 80. These specimens are so few and are sort after by those that know this form. The region is particularly limited in size and I have local divers that have not found one for many years and some have never found one. On offer here is an amazing specimen found by the author of "Australia's Spectacular Cowries” himself. I obtained it from a close friend whom wishes it to go to someone that will really appreciate it. At 90mm+ it is an impressive specimen with amazing weight and unique margin and base colours. The margin colour is a every deep red/brown with the large tiger spotting just showing through. Amazingly this specimen has a patch or two of dusty blue coming through on the base, something I have not seen before on any friendii. Graded GEM- with a natural growth soft steps, and two micro silt pimples, none of which detract. The original Peter Clarkson label comes with this amazing RARE specimen. Diver collected in 11M. on the floor of a cave, amazingly upside down having fallen of the cave wall, 5 miles from the Blackwood River mouth, Augusta, West Australia, 3rd July,2000. ALL WHITE REFECTIONS ARE FROM THE CAMERA LIGHTING.
